NoteFind Information

Run NoteFind

With the NoteFind tool, you can display named notes on a fretboard. This lets you see all of the notes on a fretboard that make up a single chord, making it easy to construct a chord from the notes available at any position. You can also see repeating chord patterns up the fretboard.

The first step is to enter the tuning of the strings into NoteFind, or simply accept the default guitar tuning of E-A-D-G-B-E. You can generate a complete fretboard chart for any altered tuning that you can imagine in the standard 12-tone scale. As with the ChordSpell tool, you can also ignore the leftmost strings and just set the tuning of the remaining four strings to match those of a mandolin.

After you've entered the instrument tuning, select the notes you want displayed on the fretboard by checking the relevant boxes. NoteFind allows you to specify whether you want an individual note to be displayed as a sharp or flat (e.g., D# or Eb). Mix and match to your heart's desire.

Finally, press the Display Notes button to see the notes appear on the fretboard diagram. You can change the notes displayed by changing the checkboxes (or the tuning) and re-pressing the Display Notes button. Or you can clear all the notes (but not the tuning) by pressing the Clear Notes button.

To create a complete printable chord chart, enter your tuning and select all available notes to be displayed. Then left-click on the fretboard to select the fretboard "frame". Different web browsers vary regarding how to print a single frame. On MS Internet Explorer or Mozilla, the File/Print menu selection gives you the option to print only the selected frame.

I hope you find NoteFind of use, or at least entertaining.
